Renters Reform goes live today!
After what seems like an age to get here, Renters Reform is now law. Matthew Pennycook, the Housing Minister, has heralded the Act in professionalising the sector. Better standards and more security for the 11 million tenants, and greater regulation for landlords in the sector. South Lakes Lettings have been monitoring all of the terms of the Act and the move into law. This is just the first phase of the roll out and affects the contractual conditions of each tenancy and ending fixed terms. Next will be the landlords database, and the Awaab’s law regulation, (currently active in the social housing sector). The third phase will be a move towards a Decent Homes standard, raising the quality of homes in our sector. Watch out too though, for the Making Tax Digital thresholds, as these will impact landlords significantly. This is a time of unprecedented change. Excited? or apprehensive? Come and talk to us and we will talk through all of the implications.
